Cadela Carlota has been a vital part of the animal welfare landscape in the Algarve since its establishment in 2008. From its inception, the organization has focused on addressing the critical issue of abandoned dogs and cats in the region. Over the years, they have developed a robust system of care that prioritizes the health, safety, and well-being of every animal that comes through their doors. Their journey has been marked by a steadfast commitment to those often overlooked, particularly animals deemed 'non-adoptable' due to age, chronic health issues, or physical limitations. This unwavering dedication has allowed Cadela Carlota to provide a safe haven and a path to adoption for countless animals, making a significant impact on the lives of pets and people in the community.

Cadela Carlota primarily serves the Lagos area within the Algarve region of southern Portugal. Their efforts are concentrated on rescuing and caring for abandoned animals found within this locality. While their direct services are centered in Lagos, their broader mission to promote animal welfare and facilitate adoptions extends to anyone willing to provide a loving home for their animals, wherever they may be located, thereby fostering a wider community of support.

Cadela Carlota is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of both dogs and cats. They provide a sanctuary for animals that have been abandoned and overlooked, many of whom possess unique challenges. The shelter often cares for animals deemed 'non-adoptable' by others, including elderly pets, those with chronic health conditions requiring ongoing medical attention, and animals with mobility limitations. Each dog and cat receives personalized care, comfort, and, where appropriate, training, to prepare them for integration into a permanent family environment or to ensure their comfort as long-term residents at the shelter.
