Established in 1999, Associação Projecto JAVA has a long-standing history of commitment to animal welfare in Portugal. From its inception, the organization has focused primarily on addressing the dire situation of abandoned dogs, providing them with shelter, care, and a second chance at life through adoption. Over the years, their mission has expanded beyond direct rescue to include extensive educational outreach, aiming to inform the public about responsible pet ownership and the severe consequences of abandonment and mistreatment. The association actively highlights new legislation criminalizing animal abandonment and abuse, underscoring its role not just as a rescuer, but also as an advocate for stronger animal protection laws.
