    About the shelter

SOS Animal is a Lisbon-based animal welfare association best known for its Clínica Veterinária Solidária (CVS) on Estrada Paço do Lumiar, where low-cost veterinary care is offered to families in difficulty and to rescuers. A small group of resident animals lives at the clinic while waiting for a permanent home, and each of them can be met in person at reception.

    Mission

SOS Animal defends animal welfare in Portugal through its Solidarity Veterinary Clinic in Lisbon, affordable veterinary care, sterilisation campaigns and the adoption of the resident animals living at the clinic.

    History & background

SOS Animal has campaigned for animals in Portugal for decades, combining petitions and public awareness work with hands-on veterinary support. The Solidarity Veterinary Clinic and the association's sanctuary projects grew out of that work, funded by members, donations and sponsorships.

    Geographic service area

The clinic and adoption centre are in Lisbon (Paço do Lumiar), serving adopters across the Lisbon metropolitan area.

    Animals rescued

SOS Animal rehomes the dogs and cats resident at the Solidarity Veterinary Clinic. Animals that cannot yet be adopted can be sponsored, covering their food, treatment and monthly care.

How to adopt from this shelter

    1. 1

      Apply for adoption

Go to the SOS Animal Solidarity Veterinary Clinic (CVS), meet the animal you are interested in and complete the adoption protocol available at reception. You can also request the form by e-mail at sosanimal@sosanimal.com.

    2. 2

      Interview at the clinic

After your application is reviewed, the team contacts you to schedule an interview at the CVS. There may be several candidates for the same animal, and SOS Animal selects the one it considers most suitable.

    3. 3

      Meeting and finalisation

A final meeting at the CVS confirms the match and the adoption is completed. The clinic is open Monday to Friday 9am–8pm, Saturdays 10am–6.30pm and Sundays and holidays 10am–6.30pm (nursing and adoption centre only).
